How to record a screencast
Screencasts can be recorded using software such as
- Wink
- Istanbul
- recordMyDesktop
- XVidCap
- CamStudio for Windows (GPL)
There is an excellent set of screencasts at ShowMeDo that show you how to get screencasting on Windows, Linux or MacOSX. There is also quite an extensive how-to on screencasting from the Ubuntu team.

Where to host a screencast
Several websites exist for hosting videos, e.g. Youtube and Google Video, but programming tutorials may be more usefully hosted at ShowMeDo, and scientific software demos at BioScreencast. (See also http://www.jove.com/ and http://www.scivee.tv/)
